2001: Chelsea players Terry, Frank Lampard, Eidur Gudjohnsen and Jody Morris were accused of insensitive behaviour in front of US tourists at a Heathrow hotel on the day after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The players were each fined two weeks' wages by Chelsea.
2002: Terry and Jody Morris, his Chelsea team-mate, were charged with assault and affray in connection with a nightclub incident in central London. both were later cleared. Terry, uncapped at the time but with a growing reputation, was forced to miss the World Cup after the FA decided he would not be considered for international duty with England until the legal case was completed. Chelsea fined both Terry and Morris for being out late less than 48 hours before an FA Cup third-round tie against Norwich City.
2009: Terry's mother, Sue, was cautioned by police for shoplifting along with his mother-in-law, Sue Poole.
